THE jury in the trial of a man accused of murdering three generations of the same family has retired to consider its verdicts.
Carl Mills, 28, of no fixed abode, has been standing trial at Newport Crown Court charged with the murder of his girlfriend Kayleigh Buckley, 17, their baby daughter Kimberley Buckley, six months, and Kayleigh's mum Kim Buckley, 46.
They all died when a fire ripped through their home in Tillsland, Coed Eva, Cwmbran, on September 18, 2012.
Mills denies the charges.
Judge Mr Justice Wyn Williams finished summing up evidence from the trial this morning before the jury retired just before 1pm.
In his summing up the judge included evidence given in the trial by police and fire officers who were at the scene of the fire as well as neighbours who witnessed the incident.
He also summed up evidence given by experts, including fire investigation experts, as well as evidence given by Mills in court and in police interview.
Mills has said he was sat on a wall near the Mill Tavern pub, Cwmbran, at the time of the fire and only became aware of the incident when he heard screaming and realised it was coming from the Tillsland area. He denies being responsible for setting the fire.
Proceeding.
