A VALLEYS MP has criticised the Prime Minister for not responding to a letter from a blind couple - despite his promise - regarding the bedroom tax.
In today’s Prime Minister’s Question Time, Wayne David, MP for Caerphilly, reminded David Cameron that in February he had asked him if he thought it fair that Mr and Mrs Goodwin, both of whom are registered blind, were going to have to pay the bedroom tax.
Mr David reminded David Cameron that he said he was prepared to consider individual cases. The family of Mr and Mrs Goodwin then wrote to the Prime Minister, but, said Mr David, had not received a reply. Mr David asked the Prime Minister why he didn’t “keep his word”.
David Cameron did not give a substantive answer.
Following Prime Minister’s Questions Mr David said, “The case of Mr and Mrs Goodwin of Blackwood is quite shocking. Both are registered blind and yet have to pay the bedroom tax for two bedrooms which the Government says are ‘spare’. When I raised the issue first of all with David Cameron he said that he would look into this case. He clearly hasn’t and this is yet more evidence that his promises are meaningless.”
