NEWPORT mayor Cliff Suller opened three new play areas in Newport last week.
On July 19 play areas in Tredegar Park, Jubilee Gardens and Bettws Lane, were officially opened in a ceremony attended by Councillor Suller.
The cabinet member for leisure and culture, Councillor Debbie Wilcox, ward members and children also atteneded the openings.
Newport children assisted Newport City Council with the designs for the upgraded playgrounds that feature basket swings, spinning bowls and climbing frames.
Three other play areas were also part of the improvement programme – Marshfield Dairy, Thompson Avenue and another site in Bettws, due to an investment of £220,000.
Councillor Wilcox said: “I am delighted that children are already using these excellent new facilities, especially as they were involved in choosing the equipment.
“Most of the new play areas will be used by the local community but Tredegar Park, as one of our major parks, attracts visitors from across the city."
