A TEACHER being investigated for allegedly taking part in a 'Harlem Shake' video posted online four months ago is still suspended.
The Argus understands that Andrew Jones, who teaches religious education at Caldicot Comprehensive School, was suspended on full pay after a 34-second video clip filmed by students was posted on YouTube on February 20.
It has since been removed.
A spokeswoman for Monmouthshire council told the Argus in March this year that it was investigating reports a member of staff had behaved in an unacceptable way, but could not discuss the detail in order to be fair to the teacher.
Initially the authority claimed the teacher had been suspended pending an investigation into a breach of the school's social media policy.
The spokeswoman said if the teacher is found to have broken the school's disciplinary policy, action will be taken.
"It seems that the incident may have been filmed on a mobile phone by pupils and if this is the case, the footage will help with our investigations," she said.
Students took to Twitter calling for Mr Jones to be reinstated, with talk of organising a protest.
Chairman of governors at Caldicot School, Peter Newcombe, said the school is following the due policy and procedure in investigating the matter and said he believed Mr Jones had been suspended on full pay, as suspension is a neutral act.
Fellow governor and West End councillor David Evans said the matter is not likely to be dealt with before September.
The matter has not been reported to the General Teaching Council for Wales.
