A fire which devastated a first floor flat in Cwmtillery was started deliberately according to the fire service.
Crews were called to the home in Valley View at 5.10am on Saturday where they fought the fire for the best part of an hour using two hose jet reels.
Fire control described the flat as being "severely damaged," but said that nobody needed to be rescued.
Today Jennie Griffiths, the head of South Wales Fire and Rescue's control, used her official Twitter account to confirm the fire had been started deliberately.
"Following house fire at 05:10 in Abertillery yesterday A Fire Investigation Officer returned to the scene 14:02 and confirmed fire deliberate," she said.
Police said they were not yet involved.
