LIFELONG Newport County fan Herbert Howard got to see his side in the flesh for the first time in 65 years today - thanks to the Argus.
The 92-year-old who grew up in Newport but then moved to Birmingham last saw County play live in 1948 at Somerton Park.
Since then, he's been forced to watch his side on television - often at his grandson's house. But after his family contacted the Argus and we told County about his lifelong passion, Mr Howard and members of his family were given tickets by County and were treated to hopsitality in the Bisley Suite at Rodney Parade.
Mr Howard said: "I've had a lovely day. We've been really well looked-after."
And Mr Howard, who still has family living in Newport whom he met before watchihg his side beat Aston Villa 5-2, took back a Newport County shirt with him when he left the city to return to the West Midlands tonight.
