A SCHOOLGIRL has gone above and beyond to make sure she keeps up with her work by not missing a single day of school in eight years.
Georgia Marshall, aged 11, from Maesycwmmer Primary School, was awarded for not missing a day of school in eight years.
To celebrate her dedication their studies, Georgia met the Mayor of Caerphilly county borough council, Cllr Michael Gray, at a special assembly last week to congratulate her on her achievement.
Georgia's mother, Marsha Barnham, 38, of Maesycwmmer, a dinner lady at the school, said: "I am so proud of Georgia.
"She started school aged three in January 2005 and finished in June 2013, and since then she hasn't had a day off.
"She wouldn't take time off even if she had a cold, as she just loves school.
"To celebrate my eldest daughter Sophie Barnham, and her grandmother, will take Georgia to Bristol overnight to go shopping and visit Bristol Zoo."
The dedicated pupil received an award from the school in the form of a plaque, and was given a three-year free swim pass.
The Mayor of Caerphilly, Cllr Michael Gray, also wrote Georgia a letter congratulating her on her achievement.
Georgia said: "I haven't been off school for so long because I really enjoy it.
"My favourite subject is English and my favourite teacher is Mrs Thomas.
"I will be going to Lewis Girls School with all of my friends in September and my plan is not to be off for the next five years."
Georgia's attendance is setting an example for other children, and the council's Education Welfare Service is reminding parents that absence from school can affect a child's chances at a successful future.
Cllr Rhianon Passmore, Cabinet Member for Education and Lifelong Learning, said, "Well done Georgia and congratulations to her parents also for their part in this wonderful achievement.
"Children only get one chance at school, and the chances of a successful future may be affected by not attending school or alternative provision regularly."
