A WALK from Cardiff to Blaenavon, inspired by the Blaenavon fire engine crash, has raised more than £1,000 for charity.
The walk was organised to raise money for the Wales Air Ambulance following the events on May 16, when a fire engine overturned on Abergavenny Road, between Blaenavon and Govilon.
Watchman, Paul Roberts, 51, was one of five firefighters injured in the accident.
The crew, retained firefighters from Blaenavon, all suffered injuries, but Mr Roberts had to be airlifted to the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, after suffering a broken femur.
Mr Roberts said: “I had not previously known that the service was a charity and it really deserves funds for the vital work that they do.”
A group of six, including Chris George, 29, who had served one year as a firefighter, and sustained minor injuries in the crash, take part in the walk on July 27, and it took the group eight and a half hours to cover the 33 miles from Cardiff to Blaenavon, with the group braving some wet weather.
