THE RSPCA is asking people to “leave those gulls along” after well-meaning people have inundated a local charity with healthy birds they believed were suffering.
Newport based City Wildlife Care recently took in 40 gulls, many of whom were brought in by concerned members of the public.
RSPCA Cymru and City Wildlife Care will both rescue and collect sick and injured birds but people are starting to collect healthy young chicks that do not require attention.
A spokesman for City Wildlife Care said: “Well meaning people are picking up healthy young chicks and bringing them to us. Roofs are getting very hot in this weather resulting in birds getting down to ground level to cool down. They have not been abandoned by their parents and more often than not are being well looked after by them! We do not have the space for healthy gulls.”
