A FUNDRAISING and awareness day organised by a Gwent woman to raise money for fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome charities, brought in just over £800.

Natasha Trew-Burns, 28, from Bassaleg, organised the awareness day earlier this month after being struck down by the debilitating conditions last year.

Both conditions cause such widespread pain and extreme fatigue that in just one year she has gone from working full-time in a nursing home to being unable to work and relying on a range of medication to control the pain and keep her mobile.

The event was held at Graig community hall, Bassaleg, and Mrs Trew-Burns was delighted by the response.

“I didn’t have a target but we raised just over £800, which was well over what I thought we’d get. People have been great, very generous, and I’d like to thank everyone who helped out,” she said.

“It was hard work and it took me a few days to get over it, but it was worth it.”

The money is being split between the Fibromyalgia Association UK and Working for ME in Wales (WAMES).
