CONSTRUCTION work to build two 130 metre-high wind turbines in Oakdale is under way.
The scheme, to put the turbines on open land next to Oakdale Business Park, was granted planning permission by Caerphilly council in 2011.
Construction is likely to take between five and six months with the delivery of the turbines expected to take place in November or December.
The exact dates will be publicised at least two weeks before in a newsletter to residents, with the turbines set to start operating in January 2014.
Once up and running, the 25- year scheme by renewable energy developer, Partnerships for Renewables, could power 2,000 homes.
The turbines will generate eight gigawatt hours of green electricity a year.
Local residents are being asked for their views on how the community benefit fund associated with the development should be spent. The fund will contribute at least £10,000 every year for the life of the project.
Simon Vince, construction director, said: “Over the last few months we have worked hard with Caerphilly council and other stakeholders to discharge planning conditions and start putting together detailed construction and traffic management plans, covering issues such as permitted working hours and delivery times, to ensure that any disruption to the local community is kept to a minimum.”
Caerphilly councillor Ken James said the development is a significant boost to the business park, which has been transformed over recent years into a flagship business plateau.
He said: “These wind turbines will help enhance the business park’s strategic importance in the area.”
