A BUBBLY man who makes up part of the Duffryn "dream team" has been nominated for the annual Newport Night of Honour Awards, representing the community organisation of the year.
Sarah Bishop, 33, of Schooner Circle, Duffryn, has put forward Bob Barry, learning co-ordinator for Communities First Newport West cluster at Duffryn Community Link, for the support he and the team has given her family over the years.
Mrs Bishop said: "He is jokey and bubbly and so friendly - he is brilliant."
Mrs Bishop's daughter Georgia Lewis, 13, has learning difficulties and Asperger's syndrome.
In 2010, Georgia received a computer and special software to help her catch up with schoolwork after the group bid for £500 from the Monmouthshire Masonic Trust Fund, which was aimed at visual learning and would help Georgia to draw, as well as play games, learn basic numeracy and literacy.
Georgia's mother said the group was unique for its community support.
"I have lived all over Newport but I have been in Duffryn for the last six years and there is not a place like it for community support. If I need something I go to Bob, he is always there to listen.
"Bob and the Duffryn community link do so much for the community, it is like they are part of a huge family."
Mr Barry, 62, of Watford Park, Caerphilly, has worked at the organisation for just over nine years and said he was delighted to have been nominated.
"It is great we can assist them and do the stuff we do to support them. I am over the moon," he said.
Mr Barry said when he first came to the organisation he was "blown away" by the work it was doing He said: "There is a very strong community and we have some fantastic families and individuals. I am really proud of the organisation and all our achievements and my own. It has been a privilege to work here and continues to be so."
