CHILDREN, parents and volunteer bank staff got into the swing of gardening as they created a space to grown vegetables at a local school.
Led by higher level teaching assistant Joanna Phillips, the group created a vegetable plot at Croesyceiliog Primary School, in Cwmbran.
Mrs Phillips, who will be running a gardening club at the school from September, worked with a group of 40 this week to install eight raised beds, a shed, and a bug hotel.
The children also helped to create a greenhouse made out of 1,500 plastic bottles.
Helping on the day were a group of staff from Lloyds Bank and members of the Woodland Road Allotment Association, Alan and Margaret Horner.
Lloyds Bank also donated £200, which paid for a hosepipe, wheelbarrows, compost and tools.
Mrs Phillips said: “It was a great day and the children really enjoyed helping to create the space.
“The plots will be used during term time by pupils who will research what to plant, learn to look after them, and then harvest the produce.”
