A HOUSE used for dealing drugs in Newport was boarded up by police yesterday.
Maindee Neighbourhood Policing Team obtained an anti-social behaviour closure order for the house in Feering Street from Cwmbran Magistrates Court on Monday (July 29).
Crime and Disorder Reduction Officer, PC Leanne Pole, gave the court evidence proving the occupants were involved in the supply of class B drugs. The court heard gangs were constantly hanging around outside looking to buy and take drugs and neighbours feared for their safety after receiving verbal abuse. There were also motorbikes riding up and down the street and the constant revving of engines late into the night, the court heard.
Based on information received from residents, officers executed a drugs warrant at the property in June.
Two women and man were arrested and charged with drug offences and cannabis and other drug paraphernalia was seized.
All three received suspended prison sentences and four month rehabilitation orders at a separate hearing on Monday.
PC Leanne Pole said: "Reports of this nature are taken very seriously by Gwent Police and we are using both criminal and civil legislation to tackle this, as part of a two-pronged attack.
"By arresting individuals and putting them before the courts we are enforcing the law. The anti-social behaviour closure order also allows us to shut the house down and restore peace to the neighbourhood."
As a result of this order, steel shutters have been installed and the property will remain boarded up for a minimum of two months.
Anyone who attempts to enter can be arrested.
Sergeant Scott Askew of Maindee Neighbourhood Policing Team added: "I am absolutely delighted that this order has been granted. Residents in Newport have the absolute right to live in a peaceful environment where they don’t fear for their safety.
"We will not tolerate anti-social behaviour of any kind and I would urge any other members of the community whose lives are affected by drug dealing, to let us know so that we can address it."
