THE BIGGEST carnival in Gwent is returning to Pill this month The annual Pill Carnival will return to Pill on August 26 to put on a show and keep the spirit of Pill alive.

This year’s carnival will see the 2013 Carnival Queen and various floats from the community join forces for a procession from Alexander Road to the Pill Millennium Centre.

The parade will kick off at 2pm and the floats and walking entrants have the chance to win a £100 prize for the best float and costume when judging takes place at 1pm.

The carnival will feature a marching band, Newport Pantomime Musical Society and this year's carnival Queen Abi Wysome, 15, of Pill.

After the parade there will be fairground and donkey rides and food from all over the world at the Millennium Centre to make a great family day out.

Organisers are looking for anyone who has an unusual or vintage car if they would like to join the carnival for people to view, as well as appealing to bikers who may like to join in the procession.

Organiser Anne Barton, 68, said: "The carnival is a voluntary thing and we just want to keep the spirit of Pill alive, as Pill is one of the most multi-national areas so we want to bring the community together."

Anyone who thinks they might have something if interest to display at the carnival should call 01633 259 249.
