A POP-UP kitchen, vineyard tours and an apple festival are on offer as part of Abergavenny Food Festival’s fringe events.
This year’s Fringe events brings together an array of culinary innovation from across Monmouthshire and compliment the main festival.
With support from Abergavenny Town Council, the festival’s organisers have put together a host of events ranging from exhibitions to festive menus, workshops and a foraging at venues and locations in all corners of the town.
There’s a chance to enjoy a high tea fest at The Angel Hotel and sample a range of tea’s from scented Jasmine Pearls to malty Russian Caravan, a seafood evening and tutored wine tasting at The Crown, Pantygelly and a pop-up kitchen at the Cricket Club cooked by Franco Taruschio and his daughter Pav.
Padstow chef Rick Stein will talk about his memoir ‘Under a Mackerel Sky’ at the Borough Theatre on the eve of the festival.
Other events include wine tasting at Ancre Hill and Sugarloaf Vineyards and an evening of music with Synergy and the Beaufort Male Voice Choir in St Mary’s Church.
A new event for this year is ‘Just Food, run by Abergavenny Community Canteen and Abergavenny Transition Town, held at Trinity Church Hall, Baker Street on September 22. It aims to highlight and discuss issues around food, growing it sustainably and distributing it more fairly. There will be speakers, short films, stalls and a soup canteen.
A butchers bistro will open above HJ Edwards Butchers, courtesy of the Food Workshop Supper Club and The Inn at Penallt has an eight-course tasting menu featuring locally-reared produce from Kate Humble's 'Humble by Nature' and their artisan suppliers.
Penny Lewis, of The Culinary Cottage, will be giving her top tips in a series of food demonstrations at Cooks Gallery , whilst the Camra Beer and Cider Festival will be held at The Swan Hotel.
The Abergavenny Food Festival takes place between September 21 and 22.
