TIME is running out to claim grants of up to £30,000 to convert redundant and underutilised buildings into sustainable commercial premises in Monmouthshire.
Despite significant initial interest, eligible projects have not claimed the business support available.
The county council is now advising people to press ahead with applications.
Monmouthshire’s special projects manager Colin Phillips said: “People sometimes underestimate the time involved in preparing a project, obtaining permissions, and conducting works. The deadline of the end of 2014 seems a long time away, but in reality, applications for grant support need to be submitted and approved quickly to have a chance of completing in time.”
The Rural Conversion Grant Scheme was established last year to support owners and microbusinesses, through the Welsh Government's Rural Development Plan for Wales.
It is limited to certain wards and capital improvements that create office or workshop accommodation.
Grants cannot be used for projects related to agriculture, forestry or tourism and applicants must provide evidence of employment creation.
Mr Phillips added: “This is a wonderful opportunity for owners and long leaseholders to access support which will improve the sustainability of rural areas by providing high quality premises that sustain local employment.”
