A BLACKWOOD rising star will take to the stage for one night and one night only.
Liam Goldsworthy, 21, will appear in the 40th anniversary of The Rocky Horror Show at The Bristol Hippodrome tonight after beating dozens in a competition for the part of Brad in the popular musical.
The popular rock and roll musical, directed by Christopher Luscombe, follows the story of sweethearts Brad and Janet on an adventure they'll never forget, with songs such as Sweet Transvestite, Damn It Janet and The Time Warp.
Mr Goldsworthy who studies musical theatre at Crosskeys, was delighted to discover that he had won the part of Brad after auditioning at New Theatre, in Cardiff last month.
“My grandfather came running in to tell me that there was an open audition in Cardiff when he had seen it advertised in The Argus,” Mr Goldsworthy said.
“I was delighted to win the part as I am a big fan of the show and my whole family love it.
“When I told my dad I had got the part he started singing the lyrics of the song I auditioned, ‘Don’t Dream It Be It,’ down the phone to me!”
Mr Goldsmith will appear at the end of the show for the final song, ‘Damn it Janet.’
His grandfather John Goldsworthy, is extremely proud of Mr Goldsworthy.
He said: ”We went down to Cardiff for his audition and when we came back with some lunch for him we had found out that he had had his audition and that the producers had decided to pick him!”
The aspiring west end star has already appeared in theatre shows such as the Welsh premiers of Rent in 2008, and Spring Awakening, as well as the world premier of Forgotten, in Newport.
Since winning the role life has been a whirlwind for the rising star with trips to London to rehearse.
“We went to London and met up with the director and musical director of Spamalot, another theatre show, to rehearse for the show and went over the songs a couple of times to practice harmonies,” he added.
“It’s been a dream come true.”
Mr Goldsworthy who hopes to go on to study drama at The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, attended rehearsals in London along with co star Claire Lisette who stars as Janet, with the musical director of ‘Spamalot.’
Performances at the Bristol Hippodrome will run until Saturday August 21.
