DOZENS of European teenagers recently visited a youth camp in Blaenau Gwent.

A group of 36 teenagers from Oberhausen Rheinhausen in Germany – Blaenau Gwent Council's official twin town - Remanzacco in Italy, and Pomaz in Hungary were welcomed as part of this summer’s International Youth Camp.

A formal welcoming ceremony took place at Ebbw Fawr Learning Community, with a multi-lingual speech from the Mayor of Blaenau Gwent, Councillor Mostyn Lewis.

The camp ran until the beginning of this month, and was organised and funded by voluntary organisation Blaenau Gwent Youth Twinning Association.

Allison Pope, the association’s Chairwoman, said: “I’d like to thank Graeme Harness, Founding Director of Ebbw Fawr Learning Community for the use of the Ebbw Vale site, and also Tesco store at Ebbw Vale for their generous contribution to the camp.”

Throughout the week, youngsters took part in various events including trips to Big Pit, Bryn Bach Park, a heritage trail walk around Blaenau Gwent, and a beach day.

Angela O'Leary, Corporate Support Manager at Blaenau Gwent Council, said: “I’m delighted that the exchange is still continuing, Blaenau Gwent Youth Twinning Committee has worked so hard this year to plan the camp, and raise funds for it, and to ensure its continued success."
