A NEW farm shop has opened near Chepstow selling produce from a landshare.

Transition Chepstow announced ‘Tidenham Landshare Project’ in February 2011.

With the generous support of landowner Lyndon Edwards, local residents are being offered loaned plots of land to grow their own fruit and vegetables in return for either sharing their excess produce with Lyndon or paying a small annual rental fee.

The site is 1 mile north of Tidenham, neighbouring the new Hanley Farm Shop – immediately accessible from the A48 at Tidenham.

“Hanley Farm Shop had been an idea bubbling in my mind for several years,” said farmer Mr Edwards, whose family has been there since the fifties.

He added: “Over the years our award winning farm has grown from 76 acres with a handful of dairy cows to well over 500 and a herd of over 200 producing the best quality organic milk. Our nearby Landshare scheme brings together people who have a passion for home-grown food and means that fruit and vegetable grown on our own land by local people travel just a few yards to be sold in the Farm Shop alongside produce from other local growers.”

The shop was an old barn which has been fitted out and renovated.

It is fully licensed with an in-house butchery and a refreshment area.
