A LONG serving volunteer at Pontypool’s Able Radio is off to teach in Beijing.

Tanith Booth, 24, first came to the station on a work experience placement in 2008, as part of her degree course and decided to stay.

Since then, Miss Booth from Fairwater, Cwmbran, has grown from a shy volunteer to being employed as head of training.

Ever the adventurer, she is expanding her horizons and now heads to China to teach English, a subject that she is very passionate about.

Able Radio general manager Rob Symons explained that everyone involved with Able Radio will no doubt miss her immensely but ultimately they are pleased that she is following her dreams.

Speaking of her time with the station, Miss Booth said: “This is one of the best experiences of my entire life and one that will always be a part of me wherever I go.

“Not only have I had the opportunity to work with some amazing individuals and teach them things, they have taught me so much more; patience, understanding and warmth.”

Mr Symons added: “Tan has done some fantastic things and we wish her all the very best.”

Able Radio was founded in 2006 by a group of volunteers passionate about improving the everyday lives of disabled people.

The station is run from the Ty Nant Ddu Centre in Pontnewynydd .
