THERE'S plenty to do this bank holiday weekend in Gwent from live music to Roman gladiators, and with sunny spells promised, there's no excuse not to get out and explore.

Music lovers have a choice of two music festivals.

The Welsh Warriors festival in Bailey Park, Abergavenny, runs from Friday to Monday and includes a fun fair and craft stalls as well as line-up including tribute bands 'Take All That' and 'Elvis and the Memphis Mafia'.

In the unique setting of Chepstow castle, Castell Roc dubbed the 'friendly festival', starts this weekend with live music Saturday, Sunday and Monday nights. Ticket prices start at £6.00 and drinks and food will be available to buy on site.

If you want to get your heart racing head to the junior road race to see the upcoming talent in British cycling.

The Junior Tour of Wales race consists of five stages of racing over the three days of the Bank Holiday. It starts with an individual time trial and is followed by three road race stages and a closed road circuit race at Bryn Bach Park.

Alternatively you can go back in time at the National Roman Legion Museum in Caerleon on Saturday and Sunday for 'Death or Glory', a spectacular fight for glory between two gladiator teams.

In between fights, spectators can enjoy Roman style acrobatics and dancing, all for just £3.

To complete the bank holiday, Newport's Pill Carnival will be held on Monday. The procession will go from Alexander Road to the Pill Millennium Centre. It will start at 2pm and judging for the best float and costume takes place at 1pm.
