TWO teenage girls who were knocked to the ground after a road collision in Newport on Tuesday are back home and making a full recovery.

Megan Williams turns 18 today (Fri), but instead of celebrating her birthday with a party, the teen will be forced to cancel plans as she is on crutches after suffering severe bruising and grazes following the incident.

Megan and her friend, 16-year-old Alisha Myers, were knocked to the ground after a collision between a car and a motorbike on Cromwell Road on Tuesday, August 20, as they walked on the pavement.

The crash happened at 4pm near Liscombe Street junction, between a motorbike and a car, resulting in Cromwell Road being closed in both directions. Both were taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital for treatment, where they spent the night.

Megan, who suffered bruising and grazes to her left hip, shoulder and face, said: “I’m lucky to be alive.

“It all happened so quick. I was knocked off my feet, I blacked out, and all I can remember afterwards is getting up and walking into the middle of the road. I was in shock. I can’t remember much.

“I was hit and then I rolled around the floor a few times. I’m badly bruised and grazed all over my body.”

Alisha, who had an operation on her leg as a result of the incident, is currently at her Newport home recovering. Megan added: “Alisha is in agony and she has a nail in her leg.

“It was like a dream. You just don’t know what’s around the corner.”

Megan, who is confined to her downstairs bedroom in her home on Collingwood Road, said the incident has deterred her from going to college next month.

She added: “I was thinking of going to Crosskeys College next month but I don’t think I’ll go now. This has put me off.”

She is scheduled to go back to hospital next week for x-rays and a check-up on her injuries, but she is hopeful of a full recovery.
