POLICE are still waiting to speak to the estranged husband of a Newport woman fatally shot in a city street.

Christopher Parry, 49, remains in Newport’s Royal Gwent Hospital after being found lying on the ground in Seabreeze Avenue in Lliswerry, Newport, at 8.35am on August 8.

He was found lying next to the body of Caroline Parry, 46, who an inquest found this week had died after being shot in the back.

A shotgun and two spent rounds of ammunition were recovered by officers from the scene, after neighbours had reported hearing shots fired.

The inquest heard a man was in close proximity with gunshot wounds to his face.

It is believed Mr Parry shot Mrs Parry before turning the gun on himself.

But police confirmed Mr Parry’s medical condition had not improved sufficiently for them to be able to interview him.

A Facebook tribute site set up in Mrs Parry’s honour has attracted almost 400 likes, with one poster saying: “God Bless you Caroline, I will always cherish the great times we had together and the many laughs we shared! You will always be remembered and missed!! R.I.P. love.”

Flowers and tributes were also left on the corner of Seabreeze Avenue and Willenhall Street following the incident.

Mr and Mrs Parry had been married for 27 years and had lived together in Croesyceiliog, Cwmbran, before they split.

They have two children, a 19-year-old daughter and 16-year-old son.

The case has now been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) who will investigate Gwent Police's contact with the estranged couple as their relationship problems had been known to officers.

Last week police officers recovered three firearms from a house in Croesyceiliog, Cwmbran, legally belonging to Mr Parry.

Police continue to appeal for information regarding the incident.
