A TRAFFICKING campaigner is preparing to reach new heights with a charity skydive this month.

Lozi Bryan, 24, of Newport, will be taking a leap of faith on August 31 with a skydive at Swindon airfield to raise money for new charity 'Cymru: Against Human Trafficking.’

The charity was set up by fellow Bethel Church member Karen Cleverly, who recently appeared in the Argus as a Newport Night of Honour nominee.

Miss Bryan, who will undergo six hours of training before doing a solo jump, has managed to raise £1,000 in sponsorship for the charity.

The Stepping Stones nursery worker and children's mission worker at Bethel Church, Newport, said: “One of my friends is working for women who have been the subjects of trafficking in Cyprus and she earns very little because she doesn’t get any funding.

“So I thought I would take part in the skydive to raise some money that will act as a little boost for her and those girls.

“The girls have been taken to Cyprus under the false concept of having a better life, or have been trafficked against their will.

“They have now escaped their traffickers and are awaiting trial against them, but this wait is on average, four to seven years and in this time they get very little help from the government.

“They are depressed, homesick, suffering from trauma and most are pregnant at the time of escape.

“They need help.”

Miss Bryan always wanted to do a skydive, so she leapt at the chance to do it for a worthwhile cause.

“I am not nervous, I’m excited,” she said. “I just hope that after all the training the weather is good enough for a safe jump.”

Cymru: Against Human Trafficking is based on prayer and works with the police, councils and other non-government organisations. It is working towards a safe house and will be looking for financial partners. Email caht@loveourcity.co.uk for details or to get involved.
