UPDATE 08.39: What happened last night finally revealed here


 

UPDATE 21.07:

Police now saying they will not release any details until the morning.


The street was cordoned off at both ends by three police cars, a police van and a scientific investigation unit as nearby residents looked on. Caerleon Road was closed off from the entrance for a short time.


A blue car parked halfway along the road had a side indicator flashing and was part of a thorough search of the road by officers.


One Caerleon Road resident, who did not wish to be named, said she was putting out her recycling when she saw up to five police vehicles and armed officers arrive.


She said: " I saw armed police officers and heard that someone had been stabbed and run over."


"It was quite frightening but I don't know what happened."


Another resident, who was in his home at the time, said he heard a screeching sound was told that a BB gun was involved.


The Argus commented both Gwent Police and the Wales Ambulance Service for a comment.
A spokeswoman for Gwent Police said a statement would be released "as and when".

 

UPDATE 20.28pm:

Police now saying incident is 'serious' but still refusing to give details. Social media and Twitter speculating on the nature of the incident but Gwent police refusing to confirm anything.


UPDATE 19.35: Police confirm there is an incident in Bank Street and they are not looking for anyone else in relation to it but refuse to say what kind of incident it is.

Eye witnesses tell us there are police scenes of crimes officers, an ambulance and at least three police cars.

Bank Street is closed and police are conducting a search of the road.

 


EMERGENCY services are at an incident in St Julians, Newport, and Caerleon Road has been cordoned off after the westbound M4 Junction 25 exit heading in to the city.
