It's always nice to see the community come together for events and it seems nobody does it better than Pillgwenlly.
The annual Pill Carnival drew crowds of up to 5,000 to see the colourful range of floats and they expect at least another 2,000 on to the Carnival field to join in the fun.
In recent years the site of a procession of floats has become a rare thing in many towns due to high insurance costs and health and safety concerns.
So to see Pill's floats including a new one from the Royal British Legion Newport branch was a treat for those who turned up to line the streets.
We have said it before but this is another example showing the sense of community is far from dead in Pill.
It's the same community spirit seen at yesterday's Carnival that keeps the Pill Millennium centre afloat despite the loss of funding from Newport Council last year.
One of the organisers - Ali Boksh, who seems to be at the heart of all the events in the area, said it was the best Carnival in years.
And thank goodness the weather held up - long may this tradition continue.
