A WOMAN returned home from visiting her husband in hospital to find their house had been burgled.
Stacey Hastings made the discovery on Saturday afternoon when she returned to her home in Nine Mile Point Road, Wattsville.
She had been out of the house since Friday afternoon after visiting her husband Matthew who has been in Newport’s Royal Gwent Hospital since Wednesday undergoing operations on his hand.
This was after Mr Hastings, 27, suffered an epileptic fit and fell onto a bag of glass bottles.
After his hand became inflamed, he was taken into hospital and has since undergone three operations.
Mrs Hastings, 26, had visited her husband on the Friday and then stayed over at her mum’s house, before returning on the Saturday to the couple’s home which they share with their three children Jack, eight, Cameron, four and Taylor, three.
There she says she found the living room had been trashed with items including an X-box taken as well as games and two specially modified controls.
A money box, which had no money in it, had also been taken off the back of the television and the television had been smashed on the floor.
Mr Hastings said he had discharged himself from hospital to go and see his wife as she was that upset before returning to hospital.
Mrs Hastings said: “I’m angry and upset. It’s all my little boy’s stuff and I had to sit him down and explain to him what had happened. He was really upset.”
She added: said: “They even had the cheek to eat some of my crisps.”
Mrs Hastings said the incident must have happened sometime between 2pm on Friday and 4pm on Saturday.
Gwent police said they received a call at 4.20pm on Saturday reporting a break in at a property on Nine Mile Point Road, Wattsville.
A spokeswoman said the incident had occurred sometime between Friday afternoon and the time of the call.
She said officers are investigating.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Gwent police on 101 quoting log number 383 24/08/13.
