MORE than 20,000 visitors are expected to attend this year’s Monmouthshire Show.

The annual event, held today at the Showground in Monmouth, is regarded as one of Wales’ largest one day country shows.

Visitors can browse more than 350 stalls selling crafts and a variety of local food and a collection of vintage cars and tractors.

There will also be displays from Gun Dogs, Black Mountain Falconry, a young farmers chariot race and showjumping competitions throughout the day. An open dog show will be held in the country matters ring, with over 1,000 entries this year.

Headlining this year’s show is Inch Perfect Trials Display Team which will entertain the crowds with an action-packed motorcycle display.

The event, now in its seventh year, is seen as a major livestock show, with cattle, sheep, goats, horses and pigs awarded prizes by the show’s judges.

Society secretary Anna Williams said that this year there will be a new park and ride entrance to the show, allowing buses to move more freely, getting visitors to the showground faster.

New roadways and improved existing roadways have also been developed to ease traffic congestion and the public.

She said: “As we enter our seventh year on the Monmouthshire Showground in the heart of the Wye Valley, we look forward to another exciting show.”

“We have plenty of entertainment on offer for you this year,” she added.

The show takes place between 8am and 7pm. Admission is £12 for adults and £6 for children on the day.
