UPDATE: 11.46am
THE Argus understands that the sale is not due to any financial difficulty but part of a long-term plan for the owners.
There is said to be currently no threat to jobs.
Burton's is the UK's second-largest biscuit maker and generated £342m in revenue and made £5.2m in pre-tax profits in 2011.
UPDATE: 11.18am
BURTON’S Biscuits in Cwmbran will soon have a for sale sign outside its factory.
The producers of Jammie Dodgers and Wagon Wheels are looking to sell their three manufacturing sites in Cwmbran, Edinburgh and Blackpool.
The sale of the company is around £350m and the for sale sign will go up next week.
This follows Burton's Biscuits calling in advisors from Credit Suisse to conduct a strategic review earlier this year.
There are approximately 700 employees at the Llantarnam factory that opened in 1937, and earlier this year it welcomed a £4.6m investment for new technology.
A company spokeswomen said: “We can confirm that a process for the possible sale of Burton’s Biscuit Company will shortly commence. There is no guarantee a sale will take place, and we will provide an update in due course.
“It is very much business as usual. The management team remains committed to leading the company and is focussed on delivering its strategy to grow the business.”
