A MAN has been charged with arson with intent to endanger life following an incident at a Pengam petrol station.
John Bailey, 36, of Britannia Road, Blackwood appeared in Caerphilly Magistrates Court on Monday.
The charge came following an incident in which a man allegedly held a lighter to a petrol pump nozzle.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning at St David's service station, New Road, Pengam.
Shigin Jayaprakasan, 28, the garage's manager, wasn't working at the time but later passed on CCTV footage onto the police.
Gwent Police confirmed that officers had responded to a 999 call at 3.15am. Fire engines from Whitchurch, Cefn Forest and Caerphilly were mobilised but stood down as police dealt with the incident.
Inspector Simon Powell-Jones confirmed there was no ignition of petrol and no one was injured.
Bailey was released on bail and is now due to appear before the crown court on September 5.
