A GENEROUS donation came with a bang to St Anne’s Hospice Care.

A minibus was donated to St Anne’s Hospice Care after £13,000 was raised at the annual Pontypool Park Fireworks display.

The new minibus which will enable patients to be collected and returned to their homes was paid for by Pontypool Round Table through funds raised from the event.

St Anne’s Hospice Care provides its care services throughout Caerphilly, Monmouthshire, Newport, and Torfaen 24 hours a day, 365 days a year for people with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses, and their families.

Pontypool Round Table Chairman Gareth Edwards, landlord of The Queen’s Pub, Upper Cwmbran, said: “We stage the fireworks display every year at Pontypool Park.

“It is renowned throughout the area and over the years has become the biggest of its kind in Wales.

“The fireworks event helps us raise funds which we then donate to various charities.

“This time we’ve handed £13,000 to St Anne’s Hospice to buy them a new minibus for their day hospice patients.”

The pub has also had a long tradition of fund raising for St Anne’s Hospice, recently raising £5,000 with a bike ride from Brecon back to the pub.

Kris Broome, of St David’s Hospice Care which recently took over St Anne’s, said: “We really can’t thank Pontypool Round Table enough for their very generous donation.

“The new minibus will come in extremely handy in helping collect and return patients from throughout the local area and further afield to and from our various day hospices.”
