FOUR Pontypool men involved in an attack on a Halloween party goer which left him with three broken teeth and a damaged palate have all been found guilty of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Joshua Mellor, 21, of Hillside Drive, Ashley Jones, 20, of Ridgeway, Gethin Lear, 21, of Penrith School Lane, and Nicholas Beddis, 20, of Ferncroft Way, all of Pontypool, were all found guilty of the charge by a jury on Thursday.

All have been standing trial at Cardiff Crown Court accused of attacking Mark Groves.

Mellor was found not guilty of common assault against Mr Groves' friend Luke Jackson, while Jones was found not guilty of assault occasioning actual bodily harm against Mr Jackson.

The charges came following a Halloween themed house party in Brynwern, Pontypool, on October 28 last year.

The court heard the men were disguised when they gatecrashed the Halloween bash; Lear wore a Grim Reaper outfit while Beddis donned a white jumpsuit, red wig and "scary clown mask" and Mellor wore a cape when they carried out the brutal attack.

All the defendants denied all of the charges.

The Argus previously reported how Mellor admitted hitting Mr Groves, but claimed he only did it because Groves approached him in an aggressive manner.

Lear said he had tried to intervene but claims Mr Groves had punched him as he tried to stop them fighting.

He said as he was recovering from the punch he saw Mr Groves was about to hit him again, so he punched Mr Groves.

On Tuesday prosecution barrister Matthew Cobbe said Mellor, Leah and Beddis all stamped and kicked Mr Groves as he lay on the floor.

Mr Cobbe said: "It is the prosecution's case that these defendants have lied to you. This was a brutal attack by four of them.”

Mr Groves gave evidence on August 23, and told the jury: "The blows were coming that quick, I couldn't really do nothing."

He spat two teeth and a bone fragment onto a kitchen top after standing up with blood pouring from his mouth, the court heard.

Mr Groves told the court how he was given 20 stitches to the mouth, had a broken bone on the roof of his mouth and needed to have another tooth taken out.

He added he now had a plate and wore temporary false teeth.

All four were released on bail and will be sentenced on September 20.
