THERE is an urgent need for better superfast broadband in Monmouthshire, Monmouth AM Nick Ramsay has said.
Despite raising the issue with the Welsh Government on numerous occasions, Mr Ramsay believes the situation in some areas is appalling.
Mr Ramsay is renewing calls on the Welsh Government to work more closely with BT and other potential providers to move things on.
He said: “In an age when we can put a man on the moon it seems ludicrous that there are parts of rural Monmouthshire that are still without access to an up to date efficient broadband service.”
He said that whilst some companies are doing their best to introduce broadband to rural areas, a more co-ordinated and cohesive approach is needed.
He added: “ We certainly need time-scales and dates when the Welsh Government and BT expect superfast broadband to be available in different areas.
“ I think there is a general drift on this important issue and it’s time for the public to have certainty about the availability of broadband.”
