OVER 10,000 car enthusiasts are expected in Newport later this month for the annual vintage and specialist car rally.

It is now over 30 years since the event- which raises money for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research- was launched and it has grown to become one of the biggest of its kind on the whole of the UK.

Event organisers are expecting over 1,500 entries at Tredegar Park when the 33rd rally takes place on Sunday, September 15.

Among the vehicles on display this year will be cars ranging from Ford model Ts from the early 1900s to American Cadillacs from the 1980s and sports cars such as Stags, Morgans, Jaguar and MGs.

There will also be vintage and classic motor cycles, commercial vehicles, tractors, stationary engines and military vehicles.

As well as attracting car enthusiasts, organisers have made it a family event and it will also include a craft marquee, children’s rides and amusements.

On top of these, there will be living history displays from the English civil war, the American civil war, world war s one and two, the Gulf War right through to the 1990s, with the chance to see how these soldiers and their families lived.

A full range of arena activities is planned, including, a parade of vehicles, and a vintage and classic car auction run by Newport Auctions, who will be donating all their fees and commissions to Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research.

The event was started by the Gwent branch of Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research to raise funds and has now raised over £1 million.

Last year’s event raised over £35,000 and attracted 8,000 visitors.
