THE results of the annual Monmouth Raft Race are in – with team Light it up from C.U.Phosco Lighting coming in at first place.
The 48th edition of the St David’s Hospice Care fundraiser started in usual madcap fashion on Sunday with competitors having water bombs thrown at them as they made their way to the start at the town’s rowing club.
But, one team had come prepared for the soaking and had built a fire hose into their raft, firing back at spectators in retaliation.
Second place went to team Lucky Severn from Siemens and third place went to The Anthill Mob, from Hereford Marches Rotary Club.
The ‘Best dressed team’ award went to the Squadron rsft, amde up of volunteers doing the race for fun.
TXO Systems, Chepstow raised £2,000 for the cause, but a team ABC Buccaneers won the category of ‘Most sponsorship handed in on the day’ with a whopping £2,510.
The crowds cheered the rafts down a 6.5 mile stretch of the river with one of the most impressive floats featuring a church complete with a vicar at the front.
It finished at Tump Farm, Whitebrook where entrants of the Monmouth Rotary Club-organised event enjoyed a barbecue.
