Nelson 2-0 Brithdir
Nelson grabbed all three points in a tight game. The first half was edgy with both sides having half chances before Ben Banks broke the deadlock.
A ball by Aarron Powell broke the off-side trap for Ben Banks to calmly rounded the keeper and put the ball in the back of the net. The second half was a similar affair with Nelson not playing their usual flowing football having to dig deep against a good Brithdir side.
The second goal came following good work from Kevin Downes getting to the bye line to cross for Banks to head his second. Nelson comfortably held on for the points having to deal with a few injuries along the way.
Best wishes go to Dan Lynch who injured his back midway through the second half which restricted his movement. Dan had to be stretchered from the field and an ambulance was called due to his lack of mobility. Everyone wishes Dan a speedy recovery.
Dynamo Aber 2 - 1 Nelson Cavaliers
Nelson lost in a tight game to high flying Dynamo Aber where they deserved to take something home. Lewis Roberts put the Cavs ahead midway through the first half with a 30 yard thunderbolt. Aber equalised following an attack down their left found their striker who slotted home.
The home team edged the chances as the first half ended 1-1. Nelson edged the second half but it was Dynamo Aber who went in front with their first shot of the half after 75 minutes. Nelson responded well and had several good opportunities to level which they didn't take. A good all round performance which ended in a disappointing result but the Cavs can certainly take a lot out of the game.
Ystrad Stars 1 Nelson Tervs 2
The Tervs start their season with a local Derby with both teams looking to steal the bragging rights early on. It started like a typical Derby with both teams trying stamp their authority on the game. Nelson soon took control. Nelson broke the deadlock thanks to Kyle Spencer fired into the net.
Nelson continued to create chances and the Ystrad keeper kept the score line to 1-0 at half time. The second half started with both teams still playing attacking football, then came the second goal, this came from player manager Nathan Thomas who lobbed the keeper after beating two defender 2-0 to Nelson.
Nelson looked comfortable at this point. Ystrad managed to pull a goal back which made for a tense finally. Nelson held on to the lead and enjoyed the perfect start to the season. Final score 2:1.
Nelson Tervs 1 Llantwit Fardre 5
The Tervs were hit by an injury nightmare after Thursday's fine win with seven players unavailable and the opposition top of the league. Nelson started well and created some chances but were unable to score.
Llantwit Fardre showed why they are top of the league and hit Nelson with four goals in quick succession. Half-time gave Nelson a respite and they came out in the second half with renewed vigour.
Nelson were awarded a penalty which was expertly converted by Andrew Teconi. Nelson kept pressing but could not beat the solid Llantwit defence. They were eventually hit by a quick counter attack by Llantwit which made the final score 1-5 which maintained the league leaders’ position.
Both teams are in action this week with the Cavaliers again playing twice at home on Thursday to Hopkinstown and away on Saturday to Penrhos, while the Tervs only have the one game, away on Thursday to Village AFC. Why not come along and give the team your support?
