A NEWPORT dad who is recovering from brain cancer surgery has recorded a charity single to raise money for his severely disabled son.

Anthony Hard, from Coedkernew, and his brother Tom have both recorded vocals for a cover of the Rascal Flatts track "I Won't Let Go", to be released as a free download on Sunday, September 8.

Mr Hard, 34, a corporal in the Royal Air Force and an Afghanistan veteran, used to sing on the pub and club scene for around eight years under the stage name Anthony David and released an album of covers for friends and family years ago.

But recently the father-of-two has been recovering from a second brain operation and chemotherapy to try and beat a cancerous growth which returned earlier this year.

Although the single, which was produced, mixed and recorded by Emily Bates and Dan Fry at their Griffithstown studio, is free, anyone who downloads it is asked to make a donation to Casey's Cause, raising money for 22-month-old Casey who was born with severe epilepsy, cerebral palsy and spastic quadriplegia after a traumatic birth at the Royal Gwent Hospital in 2011.

Casey suffers regular spasms and in February his parents, Anthony and Nahella, 33, who also have a nine-year-old daughter Reagan, successfully raised £5,000 to buy a bed for Casey using their Facebook group 'Casey's Cause'.

This total was matched by their former neighbour Claire Hutchison who organised a five kilometre fun run in which Mr Hard took part - just weeks after major brain surgery.

The Argus reported in July how he family are waiting for an initial consultation with NHS doctors in Wales after they agreed to an operation which will allow Casey to be fed straight into his stomach, after tests showed he was breathing in food.
