NEWPORT brewery Tiny Rebel will launch their first bar in Cardiff this month, creating 30 to 40 jobs.

Gareth Williams, 32, and Bradley Cummings, 25, co-founders of Tiny Rebel, will be opening their new bar, Urban Tap, at the end of September.

The Newport brewers, who caused quite a storm in Sweden with bottle art on its beer Fubar, hope that the venture on 25 Westgate Street, Cardiff, will attract a wide range of people.

The Maesglas-based brewery, which already has a small on-site bar in Newport and has spent three months refurbishing the new premises, aimed to create a contemporary venue to match the changing face of real ale.

Mr Williams said: “The bar will be launched at the end of the month and we are hoping to relate to different generations of people through the décor.

“We have a modern side bar and murals and vinyl's on the walls, as well as a big upstairs dining area, as well as a bar and kitchen.

“The downstairs has an L-shaped bar and a function room, and there is also a 'Cwtch room' where people can just chill out, which contains sofas for a contemporary feel.”

Despite the fact that Fubar was the overall silver medal winner at the Great Welsh Beer Festival earlier this year, the new bar is keen to incorporate other ales and wine from local suppliers and around the world, to stop people from becoming bored.

“The face of real ale is changing and so we are getting a younger crowd, we want it to be a place that both couples and groups can go to enjoy beer and wine and we plant to have live misc.

"We will be focusing on the craft beer scene, but we will also be having a specific wine list and a cider bar.

“There are big double fridges which sell beers from around the world as well as rare beers, which gives people the option to choose what they want without clogging up the bar.

“They can then choose to drink it at the bar or take it away with them.”

The bar will also venture in to food, providing gourmet bar snacks such as cheese platters, sourced locally.

“We were looking for a venue in both Newport and Cardiff and the right venue came up in Cardiff so we decided to go for it,” Mr Williams added.

“We would love to open up a bar in Newport but we are just waiting for the right area in the city centre.

“With all of the regeneration going on in Newport at the moment it would be great to open up there.”
