You may have noticed the Dolman theatre is sporting a colourful new look ahead of the autumn season.

There have been lots of changes at the Newport theatre, not to mention new front of house manager, Steve Bissex-Williams.

Mr Bissex-Williams is responsible for the eye-catching frontage for the theatre featuring displays of forthcoming productions.

He said: “Last summer we gave the 400-seat auditorium a total make-over with new seating and carpets.

“This year we’ve been equally busy covering the front entrance with bright new posters advertising not just Playgoers but also our many hirers. There are many more changes to come which we are sure will greatly enhance our audience’s theatre-going experience.”

Mr Bissex-William has also been helping head of wardrobe Becky Phillips to re-organise the theatre’s extensive wardrobe department, along with a team of volunteers. This has involved cleaning the department from top to bottom and sorting through hundreds of dresses, coats, hats, shoes, shirts and costumes.

He said: “We’re now all set to kick-start our new season with a bang – by presenting the action-packed fun-filled stage version of Alfred Hitchcock’s classic ‘The 39 Steps’. Imagine four actors playing 139 characters in 100 minutes and you get an idea of the mystery, madness and mayhem involved."

The Newport Playgoers 90th season of plays launches with ‘The 39 Steps’ at the Dolman Theatre from 11– 14 September at 7.15pm. To book call 01633 263670 or visit www.dolmantheatre.co.uk
