THE openening of Blaenau Gwent's new college, the Ebbw Fawr Learning Community has been delayed until 10th September.
Blaenau Gwent council announced the two-day delay in the opening of the new building at The Works site in Ebbw Vale by two days.
New Year 7 Students and returning Year 11 students will now start on Tuesday 10th September with the rest of the students joining them the following day.
A Council spokesperson said: “The building requires a little more time to bring it to a better standard of occupation and to allow teaching staff to fully transfer from the previous sites.”
Graeme Harkness, Founding Director at Ebbw Fawr, said: “We are all naturally disappointed that the building is not ready despite a massive amount of work over the past few weeks. In order that students do not miss teaching time we will now move forward two INSET days from later in the year and then replace those days with normal school days. The total number of teaching days for 2013/14 will therefore be unchanged.
The building is truly inspirational and we are really looking forward to next week.”
