IT IS nearly 20 years since a man with a toned torso and a sun tan burst onto the music scene dancing under a waterfall.

It was perfect weather for another performance in Cwmbran yesterday, but Peter Andre was not there to sing his hits, just to sign his new fragrances for legions of fans at The Perfume Shop.

Grandmas, mums and teenagers did not know whether to scream or cry as they crammed behind barriers to catch a glimpse of the pop star and his pregnant Mysterious Girl Emily MacDonagh, who showed off a tiny bump.

It was Insania in the build up, with the first fans securing their place at the front of the queue at 5am.

By lunchtime there was hardly room to move.

Five hundred people who purchased Andre’s new fragrances Forever and Forever Young were guaranteed to meet him and it was a little emotional for one who had his name inked all over her face.

They were given a Flava of the scent, bottles of which Andre is signing at eight of The Perfume Shop branches this week.

In Cwmbran for the first time since a concert with East 17 in 1995, Andre told the Argus it was amazing to return.

“For once I have come to Wales and felt like Tom Jones,” he said Behind Closed Doors, when the shop temporarily shut after the signing.

“We love everybody here, I think they are some of the most polite people. It’s unbelievable and the crowd were just incredible.”

Andre learned a few Welsh phrases from staff at the shop, who chatted to Emily and his brother Mike.

The Argus made 73-year-old Christine Williams’ dream come true, our meet Peter Andre competition winner could not have been happier.

“When I knew he was coming to Cwmbran I wanted to see him but I knew I wouldn’t be able to stand in a queue for ages as I have osteoporosis. So when I found out, I felt like I’d won the lottery,” she said, describing her obsession with Andre as “ten out of ten”.

“I feel 23 today. I said to Emily ‘are you jealous of all these girls kissing him?' and she said ‘not really.’

“Christine has been calling me and the cat Peter,” laughed husband Ron, 76.

Friends Michael Gibbs, 26 and Louise Bailey, 24, from Sebastopol looked on as Andre signed bottle after bottle, keeping hydrated with drinks handed out to the crowd.

“He’s just so genuine. We have liked him for years and years,” said Louise.

Emma Cantelo, 25, from Coed Eva, said: “I’m a massive fan. I started watching him when he was in the jungle and when he married Jordan. It’s nice to see him with his kids and another one on the way.”

Once his work with a pen was done, Andre was asked by management to go and say hello to the fans who were not taking part in the signing, but still queued for hours to see him.

Waving a smartphone around, the crowd let out a huge cheer as he photographed them for his Twitter page.

Andre then told his shy girlfriend to give them a wave and she was greeted with an equally warm welcome.

After finishing the signings and thanking The Perfume Shop staff for their hospitality, Andre hardly had time to catch his breath as he was whisked away to its Stoke store for another event.

Some of the lucky fans who mobbed Andre might find themselves on television, as the event was filmed for the last series of his ITV2 show My Life.
