A 22-YEAR-OLD Newport man has been charged with three counts of attempted murder following the shooting in Somerton last week
Officers investigating the incident which occurred on Chepstow Road, Newport at 11.30pm on Tuesday September 3 have this morning charged a 22-year-old Newport man with three counts of attempted murder.
The man was arrested as part of the investigation on Friday morning. He has been remanded into custody and will appear before magistrates this morning.
The man arrested following the execution of a warrant at an address on Elaine Crescent, Newport yesterday remains in police custody assisting officers with their enquiries.
Officers from Gwent Police are continuing to make enquiries to locate the firearm used in the incident, as well as a dark coloured 4x4 jeep type vehicle that was seen driving along Chepstow Road and onto Beechwood Road in the direction of St Julians and Christchurch.
A 24-year-old man from Newport man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is currently assisting officers with their enquiries.
A third man, aged 24, who was previously arrested on suspicion of attempted murder has been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
Two men from Cardiff, aged 22 and 24, arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of controlled drugs have previously been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
