TRIBUTES have been paid to the two who died in a car crash in Chepstow on Friday.
Harrison Marshall, 11, was a passenger in a black Vauxhall Corsa while 44-year-old Ryan Griffiths was travelling in the other car involved in the collision, a blue Subaru saloon. Both were from the Chepstow area.
Mr Griffiths was pronounced dead at the scene, while a woman and boy were taken by ambulance to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol. A young girl was taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital with minor injuries. The other occupants of the Corsa, two females, received minor injuries.
Floral tributes have since been left at the scene.
In a joint statement, Tim Appleby and Claire Price, headteachers at Thornwell and Chepstow Schools respectively, paid tribute to young Harrison.
It said: “We are devastated to hear about the tragic death of Harrison Marshall who was in year 7 of Chepstow School, and who left Thornwell School this summer.
“Harrison was a well-loved boy with a wicked sense of humour. He was a friend to everyone, and we all remember the way he cared for all those children in his class at school.
“His happy and sunny personality made an impression on everyone he met. He is a big loss to both schools and to the community.
“His friends at Chepstow School spent the day sharing memories of Harrison and making a memory board for him.
“Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time, and we wish to support them in the best ways that we can.”
A spokesman for Monmouthshire Council said: “We were devastated to learn of last Friday’s accident, in which Harrison Marshall, a pupil of Chepstow Comprehensive School and a recent pupil at Thornwell School, died.
“Nothing that we can say or do can come close to dealing with the sense of loss that both school communities feel. But we are helping as much as is possible.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this difficult time.”
Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to ring 101 quoting log 393 06/09/13.
Officers are particularly keen to speak to a cyclist who was travelling towards Chepstow and was in the vicinity at the time of the collision.
