GOOD Newport neighbours have been recognised for their generosity with a Newport Night of Honour Award.
Elizabeth Howard, 31, a nurse and Adam Howard, 30, who works in media, have been nominated for the Newport Night of Honour Good Neighbour Award after they took in neighbour Sue Willis, when she was facing homelessness.
Mr and Mrs Howards' nomination comes as one of the last in a series of nominations for the Newport Night of Honour Awards, and they are in for the chance of winning the title at a ceremony on September 22.
The Kings Church has teamed up with Argus for the third year running to find people and organisations that have gone the extra mile to help others.
The eight categories include; the above and beyond award, public service superhero award, parent of the year, volunteer of the year; and community organisation of the year.
Their nominator, Mrs Willis, of Maindee, said: “I was facing homelessness when Adam and Lizzy stepped in and invited me to stay in their home.
“They took me in despite the fact that Lizzy was pregnant with their second child and I was suffering from a debilitating illness which meant I couldn't get out of bed sometimes.
“None of us knew how long it might be for but that didn't matter to them.
“They welcomed me into their home and family.
“I stayed with them for six weeks and now live in a flat close to them where they still support me in many ways.”
Mrs Howard, who has two children Ruben, two and Asher, four months, said: “We met Sue through The Kings Church three years ago when we were both part of a small bible study group and even though we are from totally different backgrounds we became close friends.
“She was so supportive in terms of helping with babysitting.
“Her circumstances meant that she had nowhere to live and so we didn't give it a second thought to ask her to come and live with us.
“We see her as family so it is a total surprise that she has nominated us for this award - as it was no big deal to have her stay.”
