AN Ebbw Vale man was given a month to prove he shouldn’t be sent to prison for persistently breaching sentences.

In August 2012, Anthony Carr, 30, of Marine Street, Cwm, was convicted of driving while disqualified, dangerous driving, having no insurance and failing to stop and was handed an 18 month sentence suspended for 18 months.

In July this year, he was sentenced again for driving while disqualified and having no insurance, having 16 weeks put consecutively on to the suspended sentence and being ordered to undertake 18 hours unpaid work.

Carr appeared at Newport Crown Court on Wednesday after failing to complete the unpaid work, with Judge Rhys Rowlands saying he was going to send him to prison for the persistent breaches.

However, after defence barrister Harry Baker said he had been ill, Judge Rowlands said he’d give him one more chance.

He will appear again on October 11, when the Judge will hear of what progress he has made and decide what punishment to hand down.
