FAMILY and friends of three generations of a Cwmbran family who were murdered in a house fire have raised almost £1,000 for the Royal Gwent Hospital.
The Buckley family, grandmother Kim, 46, her daughter Kayleigh and Kayleigh’s six-month old daughter Kimberley all died when their house was deliberately set on fire by Carl Mills in September 2012.
Callous Mills is currently serving a life sentence with a minimum tariff of 30 years before he can be considered for parole after being found guilty of murdering the family by a trial jury at Newport Crown Court in July.
This week, Kim’s partner of 10 years, David “Dai” Parker and his pal Andy Giles handed over a cheque worth £900 to go towards the RGH neo-natal care unit.
The specialist unit had been close to the family’s hearts after staff there had battled to save baby Kimberley’s life after her twin sister had been still born.
The pair had helped raise the money along with 12 others after tackling a 25 mile cycle ride from Abergavenny’s Nevill Hall Hospital to the Royal Gwent in Newport last month.
Mr Giles, who works for Torfaen council with Mr Parker and who organised the cycle with another friend Shane Bright, said: “It was a fabulous day and we must say a massive thank you to everyone who came on the ride and donated.
“The staff at the Gwent were fabulous on what was a tough day for everyone going back to the hospital at this time of year.”
