LEGENDARY giant vegetable grower Ian Neale is celebrating after beating another World Record achievement with his giant Swede.

Mr Neale, 70, of Langstone, Newport, who lovingly nurtured a mammoth 85.5lb vegetable to claim a Guinness World Record, beat his previous record with a 95.96lb (43.6kilos) at the Rhonndda Heritage Park show on September 7.

Mr Neale broke his own record with the giant vegetable as well as his Alaskan competitor Scott Robb, who nurtured a 40 kilo Swede.

But the gardener has more tricks up his sleeve with two more Swedes lined up for The Malvern Autumn Show- Three Counties competition that he believes will be even heavier.

“I have two more Swedes to show, one of which I will enter into the Malvern competition on September 28,” Mr Neale added

“These Swedes are even bigger than this latest world record holder-I can’t even lift them.

“I will weigh them myself them enter the heaviest into the competition.

“I think they must be well over 100lb.”

The vegetable grower who met with hip-hop star Snoop Dog in Cardiff two years ago, to tell him the secrets if his success, is unhappy with the lack of recognition given to vegetable world record holders.

“Sports people like Andy Murray are recognised for their achievements with people suggesting they should be knighted, but we are not recognised in this way.

“I think you should award everyone for their achievements.”
