A FATHER and son from Raglan will be taking on a challenge to cycle from Barcelona to London as they aim to raise £40,000 in memory of a colleague.
Martin Anderson, who is the chairman of the governors at Haberdashers’ Monmouth School for Girls, and his son Simon, will be setting off on September 17 in aid of Orchid male cancer charity.
The aim is to cycle just under 1,000 miles from Barcelona to London, conquering the Pyrenees on the way, in just eleven days.
The father and son team, who both work in the television industry, were spurred on to take up the challenge in memory of their colleague, Chris ‘Milton’ Ivin, a talented young cameraman who sadly lost his fight against testicular cancer in 2012.
The men have already raised over £28,000 for Orchid and hope to reach their target of £40,000 for the charity which specifically targets awareness of the signs and symptoms of cancer amongst men.
Martin Anderson who is also deputy chairman of Natural Animal Feeds in Monmouth, a major local employer and one of the key sponsors, said: “We have been training hard around the roads of Monmouth, ahead of our arduous bike ride.
"Inspired by Chris Ivin, we have been overwhelmed with the support and generosity of local businesses, friends and family. The funds raised for Orchid should help prevent more deaths in young men.”
