A CARING Newport girl will cut off her hair for children with cancer.

Six year-old schoolgirl Elle-Louise Ravenhill, has decided to cut off around 13 inches of her hair for cancer charity Little Princesses Trust which uses real hair donations to make wigs for children aged two to 16.

Elle-Louise got the idea to donate after asking her mother to explain to her what cancer was.

She wanted to do something to help after discovering that children like her lost their hair during chemotherapy treatment.

Her mother Aimee Ravenhill, 24, of Newport said: “She just asked me one night what cancer was and as I was explaining to her what it was, I told her how some people can lose their hair.

“She said that they can have her hair as she didn’t want it.

“So when she went to bed I looked into it online and saw that the charity Little Princesses Trust made wigs for young children suffering from cancer.

“So I asked her if she still wanted to do it and she said yes, so we are going to cut off around ten inches of her hair at 10.30amon September 21 a Willy Steiner Shapes hairdressers.”

Elle-Louise who has lost family members to cancer, is now on the hunt for sponsorships ahead of the big chop to raise money for cancer research.

“She is very excited about doing it and is going around friend s and family asking them to sponsor her,” Mrs Ravenhill said.

“We haven’t got a specific target, but we have quite a big family so hopefully we will raise a fair amount of money.”

After the cut Elle-Louise’s hair will be shoulder length, but she is not the only one hoping to get involved, her mother is also planning to cut off her hair.

“It’s pretty short at the moment so I’ll have to wait until it grows to make a decent wig!” she laughed.

“Wigs cost around £350, but with donations like Elle-Louise’s children can get hair for free.

“I am really proud of her, she is a very thoughtful girl,” her mother added
